Community Cohesion

The Education Act of 2002, Section 78 states that schools should promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society, and prepare pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

At Shobnall Primary School we pride ourselves on doing just that.

We are fortunate to attract a wide variety of visitors to our School

• Reverend Farthing officiates at several assemblies during the year
• Parents from different backgrounds
• Senior citizens from the local community
• School nurse
• Visitors from other educational settings
• Community police officers
• Road safety officer
• Firefighters
• Caliche performers

Members of the Intermix Project, giving the children the opportunity to experience food, clothing and music from around the world

The Early Years children visit the residents of Charlotte James’ Nursing Home to sing Harvest and Christmas songs.  Other year groups visit different places of worship and all children attend Harvest, Christmas and Easter services at St Aidan’s Church.

By offering children these opportunities it helps them to understand others, to promote common values and to value diversity.

Year 1 – Australia
Year 2 – Iceland
Year 3 – Burundi (Africa)
Year 4 – Brazil
Year 5 – China
Year 6 – South Africa

imagePCSO : Visits

Our local PCSO, John Beard, is regularly in school discussing parking issues in order to make it safer for our children.  He also supports our PSHEE lessons by discussing road safety and keeping safe in cars.  During the year he visits all classes to talk about vandalism and stranger danger.

imageSchool Nurse:

Our school nurse, Eleri Parkhurst, is always at hand to support our families.  She is both reliable and approachable.  If you need to speak with her please make an appointment with Mrs Foster. She supports our education by talking with the children about healthy eating, keeping healthy, dangers of the sun and relationships.

Paul Cope-Road safety

Mr Cope yearly comes into school to support teaching and learning of road safety.

This year in Year 1 he has delivered the ‘Urban Trail.’ Year 1 children are given the opportunity to practise skills on the roads around school.

This year in Year 3 and 4 the children have been developing their road safety skills further using the ‘Stepping Out’ programme.  The children complete a practise walk as well as an assessed walk to see what they have remembered.

Travel Plan

Each term the travel plan ambassadors have been meeting.  The next meeting will be to design and create posters for Walking to School Week in May.
The key objectives are:

• To increase the number of children who walk to school.
• To decrease the number of single car journeys made to school.

How can you help?

• Can you walk to school?
• Can you car share?
• Can you Park and Stride from the Albion?

If you have any suggestions please see Mrs Taylor with your ideas.

imageHealthy Schools Week and Sports Relief Day

The children had a great time during healthy schools week. Each class took part in a variety of activities including designing a healthy lunchbox, finding out how children at Shobnall travelled to school and presenting their findings in a graph.

All of the children enjoyed a sponsored sports activity day in order to raise money for the National Sports Relief campaign. Each child took part in sporting activities including Netball, Football, Dodgeball and Hockey. Children also learnt about why it is important to exercise and what happens to our bodies when we do.

We would like to thank all parents, friends of the school and members of the local community in supporting the children during this event.
