Governors
Introducing...

Pat Taylor - Chair of Governors
My association with Shobnall School has been a long and happy one. My children attended the school many years ago. I have been happy to preside over the many changes in the recent school's history. As a trained teacher I am fortunate that I am able to work alongside teachers throughout the school.
Jane Dennis - Community Governor
Gary Dennis - Local Education Governor
I enjoy working as a Governor for Shobnall School. My association with the school has been a long one. Being a member of the Governing body enables me to listen to the views of parents, pupils and teachers. I relish working with Governors to move the school forward and particularly enjoy my role on the Personnel and Staffing Committee.
Sarah Evison - Parent Representative
Hi my name is Sarah. As a neighbour, parent and governor of
Helen Foster - Parent Representative
I feel proud and privileged to be serving the community of Shobnall School as Governor. Having lived in the area and sent my children to Shobnall School I am still committed to ensure that all our children are given the best opportunities possible. I enjoy debating the issues at Governors meetings and am a regular member of the Curriculum Sub-Committee who decide the policies of the school.
Muriel Howell - Staff Governor
I have worked with children for a number of years initially at a special needs school for children with challenging behaviour. My children attended this school and I was immediately impressed by the care and nurturing environment and decided that I wished to become a parent helper. After completely my qualifications I was successful in my application as Learning Support Assistant. I have a particular interest in the safeguarding of children and after intensive training I am now the designated Child Protection Officer for the school.
Paul Laffey - Parent Representative
Hello my name is Paul Laffey. Having watched my two children gain so many benefits from Shobnall School, I thought it was time I should put something back. As a recently elected school governor I hope to bring my many years of skills and experience of working in the Private and Voluntary sector to the Governing Body. Having led Burton YMCA for a great number of years I have got to know many of the challenges young people and families face in our local community. In my spare time I enjoy taking my children swimming and to their drama classes. I also enjoy reading, cycling and Salsa dancing.
Steve Mansfield - Local Education Governor
Having had connections with the school for many years it is a pleasure to serve on the governing body to help to steer the school to achieve academic excellence. Being an active member of the governing body enables me to listen to every ones point of view so that we can bring about changes which enhance the curriculum and opportunities offered to children.
Jenny Marples - Parent Representative
Over
the past decade I have seen my children learn, thrive and succeed at Shobnall
Primary School. It has therefore been a privilege to be able to devote time and
energy towards assisting the School and its staff help other children to do the
same. Working in the post compulsory education sector, I get to see how our
children can develop into mature, responsible and caring adults. This all starts
with a good foundation, and I am confident that every child will always be
offered the support and encouragement they need at Shobnall Primary
School.
Lucy Waldron - Staff Governor
I’m Mrs. Waldron and I work at Shobnall Primary School as the Year 5 class teacher and Teacher Governor. I thoroughly enjoy my role as Teacher Governor as I am able to put forward my views as well as forwarding thoughts and ideas from other members of staff. As a teacher, I find it really interesting being on the Governing Body as it allows me to see the time and commitment that the School’s Governors give and also how key decisions are made about our outstanding school.
Nancy Elks - Local Education Governor
As a local Headteacher I can bring to the Governing Body a wealth of skills and expertise. I was very impressed after my initial visit to see the high standard of accommodation and resources which are available. Working in partnership with the governing body will give me a valuable opportunity to contribute and initiate developments so that the high standards of this thriving primary school are maintained.
Ian Vanes-Jones - Parent Representative
Both of my daughters have been part of Shobnall School and I am proud to also be part of this family as a Parent Governor. My background is vocational trained in contruction and I am currently managing in education for the local College with a teaching commitment. I have been involved with the later stages of the recent major alterations at the school, of which we can all see the benefits that this has produced. I am forever busy doing something, but am always approachable if you have an issue you wish to raise.

Julie Brewer - Community Governor
It is a privilege serving as a governor to this thriving school community. All my children attended the school and I have therefore had a very long and happy association with the school. I enjoy the challenge of working as part of the governing body and I am especially keen on early years as it is an area of my own expertise. I run my own nursery and work collaboratively with the school to shape school policy in this area. My interests are walking my pet labradors called Maisy and Tia.
