Sport Relief - Friday 9th March 2012
The children at Shobnall School always consider the needs of others and we were delighted to hear that Max Orpwood from Year 6 has decided to participate in a Sponsorship Event in aid of Sport Relief. Max has decided on an unusual strategy to raise money and that is to have his hair shaved off. Max has beautiful locks of hair and we know he will look entirely different. Well done to Max for showing great initiative. Anyone who would like to sponsor Max is asked to call into the School Office to sign his sponsorship form.

Netball Success as Children are Crowned District Champions!!!! – Wednesday 7th March 2012
It is with immense pleasure to announce that the school netball team have just been crowned Burton and Uttoxeter district champions!
The children were required to represent the Dove Valley schools as one of two representatives after qualifying through the league format in which they came second. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to continue to demonstrate their remarkable skills and team work and they managed to do this so impressively.
The district finals were held at De Ferrers Academy on Wednesday 7th March on a cold and blustery evening. However, the weather did not deter our children and they quickly started their campaign with a 3 -1 victory over St. Modwens. The children continued to perform well with yet another victory over Rolleston, a 3 – 0 win. A 2 – 1 hard fought game against Anglesey and a brilliant 2 – 0 performance against Windsor Park from Uttoxeter saw us crowned as the District Champions!!
The children will now go through to represent East Staffordshire district at the Youth Games at Keele University on Tuesday 3rd July.
It’s exciting times for these children and it will prove to be an amazing opportunity to represent not only Shobnall but East Staffordshire. Well done children, we are all so proud of you!

Bikeability Training - Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th March 2012
Our Year 5 and Year 6 children have taken cycle training from the Bikeability Team. The children assembled in the school yard, complete with their own cycles and essential safety head gear, coats and gloves. The instructor gave them an introductory talk and health and safety issues, as well as general information such as locking up your cycle, when out and about in the local area.
They are now competent to start and finish a journey by road, including passing parked vehicles. They were taught the awareness initiative to always be aware of everything around them whilst on a cycle and signal their intention of a manoeuvre to other road users. A general knowledge of the Highway Code is essential for understanding road signs and junction markings.

Dove Valley Netball League Finals - Thursday 1st March 2012
The children competed in the Dove Valley netball league finals on Thursday 1st March. It was an opportunity for the children to continue to show off their skills and excellent team work. We started the tournament against Yoxall and won the first game 3-0. We then played against Needwood and after beating them we were faced with Rangemoor. Unfortunately we took our foot off the pedal and lost in the final minutes of the game 2-1. After this defeat we realised we had no other choice but to beat Rolleston in order to stand a chance of winning the competition. The children played brilliantly in this game beating the favourites 2-0. Our final game was against Alrewas where we achieved a fantastic 7-0 win. Unfortunately the children lost out on the gold medals on points difference to Rolleston meaning that we finished runners up, but most importantly qualifying for the district finals.
It was a great evening, fantastic support from the parents and the children were brilliant ambassadors for the school.
