Tuesday January 26th 2016
-Today, twenty six nursery children, Mrs. Wheeler and her team of three Forest School assistants set off to experience Shobnall Primary School’s Forest School for the very first time. Once dressed in their layers, they set off across the playground to meet a new friend, ‘Adventure Ted’.

Year 1 – Week 4 at Forest School
-This week our session began with a lively game of ‘Squirrels in a tree’, where children scamper around like little squirrels but have to listen carefully for the owl swooping down! Very quickly, in pairs they make a tree to house a given number of squirrels. Cooperative learning was high on the agenda as well as problem solving, especially when four squirrels had to hide in the tree!

Year 1 – Week 3 at Forest School
-After an energetic game to get us warmed up, the children listened attentively as Mrs. Farrington demonstrated the safety around using a pair of secateurs. All the children got to practice this new technique and showed that they had listened with great care as they put a glove on their helper hand and trimmed off the small branches. The children then began to make a woodpile, sorting out the wood we collected last week into bigger logs, sticks and branches.

Week 5 at Forest School
-Our last Forest School session of the year, and wow what an exciting session we had! We began by reflecting on what we did last week and what we could remember about using the potato peelers – we could remember lots, Mrs. Farrington was very impressed!
-
Week 4 at Forest School
-Our Forest School session this week began with a busy game of ‘hungry birds’. Children worked co-operatively with a partner and collected woollen worms that were hidden in the woodland.
-
Week 3 at Forest School
-The weather this week at Forest School was glorious, we were grateful to the shade created by the trees.
-
Week 2 at Forest School
-Undeterred by the cooler and drizzly weather we set off for our weekly Forest School session. We began with our safety game ‘1,2,3 where are you?’, this week lots of children were confident to go off and hide by themselves.
-
Week 1 at Forest School
-The second group of very excited Reception children entered Forest School for the first time today. Since our last visit the woodland has burst into life and is now full of secret pathways waiting to be discovered!
-
Year 1 – Week 2 at Forest School
-This week the grounds men came to prune some of our trees at school. As wood is very scarce in our Forest School at the moment we grabbed the chance to collect as many branches as we could. The children were brilliant at clearing the area and dragging the branches safely into place.

Year 1 explore our new Forest School
-Our Year 1 children were the first class to experience our new on site Forest School, and were very excited as they made their way across the school field to find out what was behind the tall wooden fence at the bottom.
